Find hope and peace – Be encouraged – Grow in faith
Our vision is to grow as disciples who ADORE God, BELONG together in Christ, and COMMIT to serving others.
We will start the season of Lent together on Ash Wednesday, February 18. That evening we will be gathering together in the Commons for a simple soup supper from 6:00 – 6:45 pm, followed by a worship service at 7 pm with the imposition of ashes.
Ash Wednesday marks the start of Lent, the 40-day reflective season leading to Easter. It is a day of repentance, fasting, and prayer for Christians, symbolizing mortality and sorrow for sins. Participants receive a cross of ashes on their foreheads which symbolizes humility, repentance (“turning back to God”), and human mortality (often accompanied by the words “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return”).
This year, Brunswick Church will be holding weekly soup suppers throughout the season – with a new twist. Each Tuesday, starting February 24, we will gather in the Commons to share a simple meal of soup and bread. After we eat, we will work together on a simple service project to support local people or ministries. The soup supper and service project activities will run from 5:30 – 7 pm.
Soup and Service Supper Schedule: February 24, March 3, 10, 17, 24
Lent is a 40-day solemn Christian season of preparation, fasting, and prayer that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends before Easter. It mimics Jesus Christ’s 40 days of fasting in the wilderness, serving as a time for repentance, reflection, and spiritual discipline to prepare for the celebration of Easter.
