Worship reaches out to the transcendent
and responds to graces that are beyond our comprehension. Authentic
worship reflects the personality of those who gather. At Brunswick
we worship at three times each weekend. The same theme, scripture
and sermon are presented at each service. While all of our worship
draws on the resources of the centuries as well as the technology
of today each of those services - Thursday at 7:00pm and Sunday
at 8:30 and 11:00am - has it's own distinctive flavor.
Thursday
evening worship, invites people into an informal, and more
casual atmosphere. Energy builds as a large praise band leads
the congregation in praise. Feelings
are openly expressed with tears of joy or sorrow, hands raised
in adoration and exuberant praise. This is the first service
of the weekend and as such has the rough edges and raw authenticity
of live TV. Without the time constraints of Sunday, this
service can run 90 minutes of unhurried, luxurious worship.
On Sunday morning,
the 8:30 congregation gathers filling the sanctuary with life.
Worshipers, led primarily by praise team, worship out of the
depths of their experience. While less boisterous than Thursday,
they are no less committed to giving fully of themselves to
worship. Seekers and worshipers of all ages and life experiences
find points of entry into a deeper experience of God and community.
The 11:00 congregation
enjoys the majestic resounding sound of organ accompaniment to the
great hymns of the church. The poetry and depth of understanding
expressed in those hymns give worshippers language to lift their
praises and needs before God. A choir leads the congregation in
singing and responding to God's mercy and grace. People reared in
traditional worship find themselves at home in this service.
It
grows and stretches our ability to praise. The distinctives
of each worship service informs the others as we use whatever
hymn or praise or liturgy will best serve. Please join us
as we worship the transcendent God who is present among his
worshipers delighting in the rich relationship he offers
us with him and one another.
